In Secondary 1 ERC, students will explore various topics including: the Code of Conduct and bullying, qualities that lead to success, family heritage and cultural references, Quebec's religious heritage, ethical issues and teen sexuality and monotheistic faiths.

As part of our discussion on ethical dilemmas and values, students must write up their own short ethical dilemma.

Students must read the scenario given in class and explain, in a paragraph, what they would do.

Key figures in the founding of Quebec

 

 

 

As part of our discussion on the history of religion in Quebec, students must answer the questions on the handout relating to religion in New France.

 

March 1st

Major life events in Judaism

Students read and we discuss the Jewish ceremonies concerning birth, commitment, marriage and funerals.

Students answer questions afterwards.

March 16th

Major life events in Christianity

Students read and we discuss the Christian ceremonies concerning birth, commitment, marriage and funerals.

Students answer questions afterwards.

March 26th

Major life events in Islam

Students read and we discuss the Muslim ceremonies concerning birth, marriage and funerals.

Students answer questions afterwards.

April 6th
Response on report cards

Students read the article and afterwards explained their point of view as to whether or not they believe schools should issue report cards or not.

Emotional and social changes

As part of our discussion on puberty and the changes involved in adolescence, students must reflect on the emotional and social changes they are going through.

 

The handout was provided in class.

May 8th
Sexual objectification

In class we discussed sexual objectification and the examples we see in popular culture. Students watched a TED Ed video as background information.

 

Following this, students must explain: an example of sexual objectification they know of in popular culture, explain what effects it can have on people (example: self-esteem) and explain what people can do to address sexual objectification.

May 28th
Test on male and female reproductive system

As part of our unit on sexual education, students must review:

- Male reproductive system (where the sperm is produced, functions of the different parts of the anatomy)

- Female reproductive (where the ova are stored, functions of the different parts of the anatomy)

 

All students have their notes with them to help them review. The information is on the last two pages of the handout.
